Some things which made me happy today.

[published on behalf of yesterday]

Today didn't start well. I was late for a meeting. I couldn't work out why I'd set my alarm so early on a Saturday so I turned it off and went back to sleep. Which says something about the effect that working 12 pretty long days in a row is having on me.

Tired as I was, my day had many lovely things in it. Here they are, in the order they brightened things up:

  • A friend posted Branka Parlic playing Philip Glass on Facebook and I listened to it on repeat all morning. I spent the afternoon listening to everything else on the web I could find of her playing Philip Glass and tried to find a way to buy it.

  • My mum - who has in the last few years got a degree and trained to be a teacher, got a job in a lovely sounding school. After many weeks of being positive everytime an interview didn't go well, and wondering how long we and she could keep it going for, it all paid off and she can get on with being a wonderful, caring teacher rather than a frustrated job hunter. She wouldn't thank me for saying how old she is here, but anyone who thinks they are stuck on a life path it's too late to change should think again.

  • I discovered blueberry tea with milk. The guy told me it tasted like blueberry muffins and it did. Fruit tea has never been my thing but this was lovely.

  • I saw 3 of my best old friends from uni. Our conversations were getting a bit depressing (relationships, jobs etc etc) but then we decided we needed to make good plans instead - we planned christmas drinks, a trip to see other old friends, and a group trip to Paris.
Music, good news, lovely tea, friends and exciting plans. That's a lot of good things in a day.

I just read this (wanted to see what blog you'd written about tea) - your mum got a job? Must have been quite soon after I saw you last. So pleased! Looking forward to seeing you saturday, x
